Horses Healing Heroes (HHH) was created out of the desire of the founder Deborah Larson to honor her father, a WWII decorated veteran, who suffered most of his adult life after returning home from what today is called, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
HHH is a fully accredited IRS non-profit 501(c)(3)
organization that will not only assist
veterans returning home, but also police officers, firemen,
prison guards, children or anyone suffering from a traumatic
event in their lives, by utilizing the proven techniques
of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy
EAP has proven to be a powerful tool in combating the damaging effects of traumatic events suffered by those put in harm’s way, by allowing them to overcome their fears and build confidence while working with horses.
Horses as large and as powerful as they appear to be are still prey animals and as such require a lot of tender loving care to overcome their natural instinct to run from the unknown, much like most people suffering from PTSD. By working and developing a relationship with horses and the challenges associated with that task, helps both overcome their fears, and has proven to be a positive influence in the lives of those suffering from PTSD.
HHH abides by industry standards and supports the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA), whose goal is committed to setting the standard of professional excellence in the emerging field of EAP.
HHH’s vision is to assist in helping people develop the coping skills necessary to lead fulfilling lives, by establishing nationwide facilities based on the EAGALA standards to promote the positive effects of EAP.
HHH’s mission is to provide a positive environment, caring professionals and an unsurpassed standard of care to help those in need, by utilizing the proven healing effects of EAP.
